Description

A limestone block bearing a dedicatory inscription from Pontius Pilate, identifying him as prefect of Judaea. Found in the ruins of a Roman theater at Caesarea Maritima.

Biblical Significance

Provides the only known archaeological evidence for the existence of Pontius Pilate, confirming the Gospel accounts of the Roman governor who presided over the trial of Jesus.
